Behind the Scenes - Michelle & Andrew – An Engagement Ring Story

One of our most fun engagement ring projects was for our friends Andrew and Michelle. Andrew came to us through his friend Tim, another metalsmith from our neighborhood, to create a memorable engagement ring for Michelle. Part of Deirdre’s method in creating the perfect ring is to discuss the relationship with the suitor. The moment Andrew began to speak of Michelle, it was as if the world had stopped… we listened, we got the essence of Michelle, and we felt the true reciprocation of love between them. “When she walks into the room,” Andrew told us, “she commands your attention.” Now, as a side-note, Andrew is no small presence himself. He has tattoos larger than some of our clients. So after hearing such a description from him, we knew we were going to have to think big for this ring.

Michelle is a wonderfully theatrical, high-energy visionary. We wanted the ring to reflect her brightness and the intensity of Andrew’s love for her.

Deirdre designed a substantial 22 Karat Gold and Platinum ring with a center Cushion Cut Diamond – a balance between the couple’s combined strength and presence.

For the hammered finish, we turned to Andrew himself. How could we resist putting so much muscle to use? After Deirdre taught him how to achieve the desired effect, Andrew did the finish on the entire ring, a touch that meant more to Michelle than anything.

As soon as Michelle had said yes, Andrew messaged us. We were so grateful to be such a big part of this moment. After a celebratory dinner with the whole team, Andrew asked Deirdre to officiate the wedding. After the wedding, Deirdre reflected on Andrew’s initial comments about Michelle: “I think he had it backwards. It’s Andrew who commands attention when he enters a room – but it’s Michelle who makes the whole room bright.”
